Arsenal in the transfer rumour mill this early!

The Daily Mail is reporting that Edin Dzeko whose record breaking partnership with Grafite at Wolfsburg was responsible for the club's maiden Bundesliga title is now a Wenger transfer target. Arsenal is reportedly tabling a £12m offer and is competing with Man City in landing the Bosnian striker.

He was signed by Felix Magath two years ago for just under £4m and has improved so dramatically at Wolfsburg that he has been monitored for some time by Arsenal's chief scout Steve Rowley.

Usually, it is Juergen Kost, the scout who covers the Bundesliga who gives a heads up on potential recruits but apparently Dzeko's form has attracted Rowley's attention. As this interview makes clear:

"If the report sounds interesting then I will tell them to watch a couple more times, then I will send another scout to look at the player, to get a fresh perspective. If they come back positive too, I will go."

Rowley is a trusted voice. He has the final say on potential signings. He was responsible for bringing in Carlos Vela and even went against Wenger's characterization of the Mexican as a poacher like Eduardo, seeing more similarities with Bergkamp.

Maybe it is all a bunch of hoo hah about nothing but stepping back, a player like Dzeko makes sense with Eduardo's long term prospects not looking good with his medical issues. RVP also has injury problems and these are supposedly linked to his impacted molars. Adebayor is a transfer target for a bunch of clubs and we can get good money from his sale. Even if he does not go, having another competitor does not hurt. Bendtner has shown improvement but is still a work in progress.
