Taylor Twellman became just the fifth MLS player to record a century of goals. He scored two against the Red Bulls for a 4-0 thumping after coming on as a second half substitute for Pat Phelan.
He was not the only one to record a milestone. Jay Heaps celebrated his 300th MLS appearance with a goal and an assist. By shutting out the Red Bulls, Matt Reis also scored his 50th clean sheet.
It has been a tough road for Twellman who has struggled with bouts of nausea and dizziness following a whiplash injury suffered last season. The symptoms have drastically cut his playing time. The Revs striker was left wondering whether he would score his 100th goal.
“I’m not going to sit here and lie. It’s a struggle every day to get up,” Twellman said. “I fight nausea and dizziness. I’m just fighting it. My neck is really screwed up and I’m fighting it. I’m giving it my best. Unfortunately, I wish it was more than 45 minutes. Next week, who knows, it might be 30 minutes, it might be nothing, it might be 60, I don’t know. It’s just one day at a time for me.”
Congratulations, Taylor! Its been an adverse road but this achievement must be doubly sweet because of it.
