President Zuma kicked a ball into cheering crowds during a ceremony yesterday at the 68,000-seat Green Point Stadium in Cape Town starting the final countdown for the World Cup next year. The very picturesquely located Green Point Stadium with the imposing bulk of South Africa's Table mountain lurking discreetly in the background is not entirely shipshape yet as you can see below. But it's getting there.

Only 364 days left to go now before the opening game of the first World Cup to be hosted by an African nation kicks off on the 11th of June 2010 - please God.
Mr Zuma, who used to play football as a prisoner under apartheid, declared as he set the countdown clock ticking... "We have made it.There is no longer any doubt that we will meet all the deadlines. Many said we would not succeed but South Africans have proved they can rise to the challenge."
