Abel Resino sacked; Quique is Atletico’s new coach

The 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Chelsea in the CL group stage was the last straw. With Atletico almost out of the CL and only one win in the Liga, it has been a horrible start to the new season. Goals have been hard to come by given that the club boasts the likes of “Kun” Aguero and Diego Forlan. It had come time to replace Resino.
Replacing Resino will be Quique Sanchez Flores whose had coaching stints with Benfica and Valencia and is already a bit of a rolling stone in his short managerial career. Quique has a reputation of putting in impressive first year results most notably with Getafe, who he guided to an impressive 13th place finish in 2005 and a third place finish for Valencia in 2006.
He might be the ideal person to resuscitate the Colchoneros. In the interim, Santa Denia, the assistant coach will lead the club against Mallorca tomorrow.
In a press conference Abel Resino said, “He who gives everything has no obligation to give anymore. My conscience is clear because I have tried everything. We have been hit hard with results not going our way. Football is capricious.”
