Jack McInerney and the US take on UAE
USA vs UAE, Ijebu Ode, 1 November 2009, 16:00 (local time)
Follow the match on ESPNU, ESPN360.com and Galavision starting at 10 AM.
The final day of the World Cup U-17 group stage.
A US win will get them into the last 16. A loss or a draw will mean an agonizing wait to find who fills the last two spots as the best third place finishers. Germany and New Zealand are through. Waiting in the wings are Brazil and Netherlands who are hoping that they can pip the UAE, USA, South Korea and Uruguay.
The UAE are ahead with one more goal scored even as the GD between the two countries is the same.
This is the first meeting between the two countries. A lot will be riding on forward Jack McInerney and midfielder Alex Shinksy. McInerney scored his 10th goal this year in the opening match against Spain which the US lost, 1-2 and Shinsky scored the winner against Malawi. But the US has been guilty of squandering goalscoring opportunities even as they have retained the edge in ball possession in both matches. They will have to do better against a UAE squad that has been more effective in scoring goals.
Manager William Cabrera on what the US should do:
"We'll be working on improving our finishing. We're well organised, we quickly move into the opposing penalty area, but we fall short when it comes to converting our chances."
