The mascot for the African Cup of Nations is an artistic impression of the Giant Sable antelope, which is a national symbol of Angola. It has the scientific name, Hippotragus Niger Variani. This endangered Giant sable Antelope is found only in the Cangandala National Park and the Luanda Total nature Reserve in the Malange province of Angola.
The Angolan national football team is nicknamed after it.They call themselves "The Black Antelopes" (which I suppose is a better nickname to have than " The Hippotragus Niger Varianis")
Some other interesting things about Angola are that they qualified for the World Cup in 2006 but did not proceed beyond the group stage and that Jose Mourinho's wife was born in Angola.
