Congratulations to Chris Hughton and the Toons as they return to the Premiership after a year. Their entry was sealed as Nottingham Forest could only manage a goalless draw at home to Cardiff City in the afternoon.

Later on Monday evening they beat Sheffield United through a Peter Lovenkrands penalty and Kevin Nolan's stunning scissor kick after Richard Creswell put the visiting team ahead.

The ups and downs that the Toons faced with relegation, an unpopular owner in Mike Ashley, enduring the loss of Sir Bobby Robson, a beloved figure, and suffering the ignominy of St James Park being named Sportsdirect.com @ St James' Park Stadium for mercenary reasons. But they are heading back to the pinnacle of the English league and financially solvent unlike Pompey.

They got goals from practically everyone - Kevin Nolan, Andy Carroll, Peter Lovenkrands, Shola Ameobi, and even defenders like Ryan Taylor and Fabricio Coloccini. A magnificent team effort. Nolan was magnificent picking up the Championship player of the year award as he scored 14 goals and created scoring opportunities for many more. That scissor kick was the cherry on pie.

Congratulations to the Toon army!
