World Cup 2010: South Africa’s ticketing system crashes

Technical glitches forced SA to put about half a million tickets on hold initially when they were put on sale in April. Police had to be called to quell angry crowds who had come from all over SA to buy tickets in person.
The same glitches cropped up when the last batch of 160,000 tickets were released. Of these 90,000 were additional tickets, including seats for both semifinals and more than 800 for the July 11 final, were added to the main batch.
FIFA said ticket service provider Match was experiencing “significant delays” due to technical problems across all sales channels, which include FIFA’s own ticket centers as well as local bank branches.
No tickets were sold on Friday, two hours after ticket sales opened.
