A price Spahic: £25million for the defender

24 hours later, the price has gone up almost three fold.

Montpellier has strenuously denied any contact with Arsenal over centre back Emir Spahic, whose stock rose after last season's performance. But the club says that no one is irreplaceable for the correct amount.

Montpellier president Loulou Nicollin.

"He has three years of his contract left," Nicollin told French newspaper L'Equipe. "(But) if he wants to leave, nobody is irreplaceable."

"He is worth three times Koscielny," who Arsenal signed from L'orient for £8.5m in July.

And in a reminder that Arsenal was accusing Barca of doing the same with Fabregas.

"To date we have had absolutely no contact with Arsenal or anyone else."

"I believe Arsenal is a great club which first talks with the people involved before starting anything."

I think we can safely put the lid on this one. Spahic had his two minutes under the sun.

Even if Montpellier is willing to negotiate, the opening price demanded is too high. Spahic maybe good but at 29 years which is the cutoff year for year to year contracts, he represents a huge risk. Really, if we can afford that much money, its best to look for younger players with more experience in the Premiership. A couple of them come to mind. Is that so hard?
