Emmanuel Frimpong whose Arsenal trajectory was just taking off suffered an ACL injury during training that will keep him out for the next six to nine months. At the time Frimpong was in Dublin training with the reserves to play friendlies against Man Utd's reserves and Shamrock Rovers.
Arsenal fans who had hopes that the highly rated holding midfielder would see first squad action will be disappointed. Wenger admitted it was a big blow. Frimpong had been in impressive form in the pre-season especially the Emirates Cup.
"I rate him highly and I still have a lot of faith in him but we will miss him for six to nine months."
Samir Nasri yesterday and now Frimpong. The season is barely a week old and we already have key casualties. What's with the training regime anyway? Are they using the rack to stretch the ligaments? The injury happened with the reserves but even in the senior squad, its the same. Somehow since Gary Lewin left, a number of players keep getting injured for e.g., Theo Walcott and Tomas Rosicky off the pitch. A training session is a place where you are likely to pick up a niggling knock or two, not have a season ending injury. Shouldn't Wenger be a wee bit concerned?
