Squillaci set for Arsenal medical on Monday

According to Sevilla, Sebastien Squillaci will be traveling to London on Monday for a medical in preparation for a permanent transfer to Arsenal.
A statement on their website read: “A transfer deal has been agreed, subject to the player passing a medical.”
An offer of £6.5m has been accepted by Sevilla. That is the amount that the Spanish club paid Lyon for his services when he arrived in 2008.
Nothing on the Arsenal website about the recent developments. But there is an Saturday entry which states that “Wenger is far from close to signing Squillaci”. Arsenal is famously tight lipped when it comes to transfers – Wikileaks would have a tough time with our club.
Squillaci will be welcome cover to the center back corps which has looked dangerously thin with just Thomas Vermaelen and Laurent Koscielny as fully match fit. Johan Djourou is on the cusp but has not played a match in over a year.

  1. Surely being loaned again to the championship is stagnation for Lansbury?
He’s done his year in the championship now, isn’t it time for him to try his luck in a top tier league?
Maybe premiership teams would be hard to break in to, but surely he’s good enough to try the top leagues in France or Germany like Nordveit did?
if he is sent to the championship again, I seriously doubt he will make it at Arsenal.

  2. Edward, not necessarily so. I remember Arsenal loaning out Nicklas Bendtner in 2006 to Birmingham along with Fabrice Muamba and Sebastian Larsson. Now he is back in Arsenal and in the first squad although this season he is out with an injury. It depends on what he does at Swansea. Birmimgham were back in the Premiership because Bendtner scored a number of goals for them. Wenger brought him back even though Birmingham wanted to make the move permanent.
