Berbatov's beauty caps a scintillating personal effort

Berbaflop? The Bulgarian's second goal was a masterclass in control and creativity. Wayne Rooney misses a looping Nani cross altogether but the ball falls behind Berbatov who turns around controls it with his knee, flicks it up, and with his back turned away from goal smashes an improvised bicycle kick. All in one smooth motion.

You can play this clip till the cows come home but it still takes your breath away. It was a highlight in Berbatov's afternoon of highlights which means a high standard indeed. Sir Alex's patience is paying off - we had no doubts about his genius but Berbatov has added consistency which makes him very, very lethal.

Liverpool gamely fought on with Fernando Torres in a continued funk- he cut a lonely figure. They were able to equalize through Steven Gerrard's spot kick and then Gerrard was able to squeeze his free kick through a gap in the wall created by Darren Fletcher's indiscipline or cowardice. Take your pick. Liverpool were able to neutralize Berbatov's two goal output for Man Utd but it was fittingly the Bulgarian who had the final say with his hat trick.

United were able to avoid yet another dispiriting come from behind draw but their defense is a matter of concern with Jonny Evans and John O'Shea looking out of depth. Another game and another no show for Wayne Rooney.
