Champions League: Real's wasteful effort against Ajax

The Merengues were profligate. All that huffing and puffing led to an own goal by Vurnon Anita and Gonzalo Higuain's effort. Cristiano Ronaldo and Angel Di Maria were quite pathetic. It was left to an excellent Mesut Oezil who brought life to the Real attack and Higuain to finish to add heft to the scoreline. A disgusted Special One acted out on the sidelines.

In summary, Madrid took 33 goal attempts with 15 on target. Maarten Stekelenburg was quite magnificent with a number of saves. Ajax was rarely in the game and the best chance came at the end when Urby Emanuelson's shot clattered off the crossbar and Iker Casillas was forced to save Miralem Sulejmani's volley off the rebound.
