Mohammed Al Fayed has told Fulham fans they could "go to hell" if they did not like the Michael Jackson statue at Craven Cottage stadium. He unveiled the statue on Sunday prior to their game against Blackpool.
While it is generally not known whether MJ ever played soccer the statue has got it's present place of honour due to the fact that he and Al Fayed had been close friends.
Fans had been a bit critical of the whole thing fearing that it would make the club a laughing stock. Al Fayed's speech for the defence included
"Why is it bizarre? Football fans love it. If some stupid fans don't understand and appreciate such a gift they can go to hell"
That's clear enough then. The statue is here to stay and their permission is not required.
The video shows the unveiling ceremony, feeble attempts made by Al Fayed to dance and some dazed onlookers clapping half heartedly.
The statue itself to say the least is not a very good likeness and actually pretty ghastly...!
The team meanwhile seem to have recovered sufficiently from the shock because they went and beat Blackpool 3 - 0 .
