Dramatic 97th minute goal by Mauro Boselli in the Genoa derby giving the home side a 2-1 win and sending a dagger into Sampdoria's efforts to keep from getting relegated. Genoa also played a man down with Giandomenico Mesto sent off in added time for elbowing Palombo.

Floro Flores finally scored with his header after coming close on a couple of occasions to send the Grifoni ahead. Fans set of flares in celebration and the stadium filled with smoke bringing a temporary halt to the match. Eduardo's error failing to collect the ball cleanly after a Palombo piledriver was punished by Nicola Pozzi following up. Sampdoria was level but it set the stage for Boselli's last minute heroics.
