Josep Maria Bartomeu is less sure about Cesc

Pep Guardiola seems to be very optimistic that the long drawn out Cesc Fabregas soap opera will finally be over this week. He hopes to include Fabregas in the US tour.

Barca have come back with a new bid said to be about £33m which is still short by a considerable margin from the £40m that Arsenal seeks. However according to Marca, Wenger appears to be softening his position and might settle for less. Barca are also hoping that Fabregas's unhappiness with his current situation will further pressure Arsenal into accepting a lower figure.

Josep Maria Bartomeu, Barca's vice-president who flew in last Friday to London for further negotiations was less sanguine. In a press conference he stated the club could expect more signings by Aug 30th. However when asked specifically about Fabregas, he said, "there is no news about Cesc".

Arsenal has given Barca till July 30th to close a deal. At this point does anyone care? Get it over one way or the other.
