Sunderland continued the theme of the underdogs upsetting the favourites this weekend as they stunned City at the Stadium of Light with as Ji Dong-won’s last second goal. Clearly offside. But the Black Cats won’t be complaining. And it was a lovely bit of skill by the South Korean as he slalomed around Joe Hart to caress the ball into an open goal.
The Black Cats have spent about $140m in the last four years compared to City’s stratospheric $560m over the same period of time. But you would never know from the scoreline. Arsenal are better off without Samir Nasri who continues his underwhelming form. Mancini replaced him with David Silva and the midfield improved considerably but City’s finishing was poor with Edin Dzeko particularly woeful.
The result is the latest in a series of stutter steps by Roberto Mancini’s squad who have now lost two and drawn two in their last seven outings. They still are atop the league standings on goal difference over Utd but with Spurs also pushing hard they no longer look sure shots for the title.
