Xandão's back heel after Joe Hart managed to stave off his first effort proved to be the difference. City again suffered one of those inexplicable lethargic displays that occasionally dog the most expensive team in the Premiership. A 1-0 loss is not so bad considering the explosive nature of the City attack and the Etihad return but they should have done much better.
Vincent Kompany was an early loss limping off with a calf strain. Mancini did not include Yaya Toure. There was no Micah Richards either with Gael Clichy an odd choice to fill his position. Samir Nasri and Mario Balotelli were left on the bench.
