According to Marca, negotiations are ongoing between Barca and Pep Guardiola’s agent Jose Maria Orobitg that would keep him and Tito Vilanova on for next season. Barca is keen on re-signing their most successful coach while Guardiola has talked about taking a sabbatical from the sport.
Barca cannot proceed with their future signings without knowing who their coach will be next year. Players like Jordi Alba and Thiago Silva are already targets for strengthening the defense but the rest is up in the air. Then there is also the reserve talent like Marc Bartra, Marc Muniesa, Martin Montoya and Jonathan Dos Santos who will be transitioning to the senior squad and need a coach familiar with the system. Players like Thiago Alcantara, Isaac Cuenca, Sergi Roberto, and Cristian Tello are already playing substantial minutes in this year’s team.
The FA has also expressed its strong interest in hiring Guardiola as the coach for England’s Euro campaign. But indications are that they will be unsuccessful as with Jose Mourinho who is sure to coach Real next season despite all the brouhaha over his “London sighting.”
