This is terrible news. We just saw Stiliyan Petrov battle Arsenal last Saturday. He looked fine. After which he developed a fever now diagnosed as acute leukemia following tests. This is a serious, serious blood cancer.
Stiliyan has been a Villa fixture since 2006 and is their captain. He also spent seven years at Celtic. Our thoughts and prayers with Stiliyan and his family. The footballing community is rallying around the Villa midfielder admirably.
This has been a bad year for footballers diagnosed or undergoing treatment for off the pitch life threatening medical conditions. Eric Abidal, Fabrice Muamba, and now Stiliyan. It's not just concussions, broken tibia's, damaged knee ligaments, hamstring tears, or ankle dislocations that are worrisome.
