Phillipe Coutinho showed brilliant invention. Luis Suarez is now officially more potent than RVP. The much maligned Pepe Reina could not be breached. And what do you know, there was even a Stewart Downing goal. It was a satisfyingly complete performance by Liverpool.

Wigan's biggest highlight was the handbags between Emmerson Boyce and James McArthur. The bad vibes continued when Franco Di Santo, displeased with his substitution, stalked off without acknowledging Roberto Martinez.
