Pellegrini’s Lampard masterstroke salvages City’s day against Chelsea

Frank-Lampard
Chelsea’s Frank-enstein today

This was an astonishing weekend in the Premier League. Just when you thought you had written a script to tear up all other scripts. Frank Lampard coming in as Manuel Pellegrini’s final throw of the dice as City reduced to 10 men with Pablo Zabaleta faced defeat. The three time Chelsea player of the year delivered against his former club and then waved off his new team mates as he refused to celebrate. We’ve seen him inflict such infinite pain on other unsuspecting victims. To do this against his former club. What is beyond heresy? Jose Mourinho on the sidelines had the ashen look of someone seeing Banquo’s ghost. He was so close, so close, to be done in by a club legend, released and snapped up by the most likely of title rivals. What is beyond revenge? Was Andrea Schurrle’s poke in a perfect set up for Pellegrini’s masterstroke?

In the Premier League, there appears to be no scripts. Which is great because it means writing anything is complete shit anyway. There is just the here and now and we’re fellow travelers.
