They had been unbeaten since the 13th of September last year and were on a club record of 22 consecutive victories.
All good things came to an end when Nicolas Otamendi scored a fine header to give Valencia the victory.
Earlier Cristiano had put Real in the lead with goal number 33 – via a penalty.
Antonio Barragan restored parity and Nicolas Otamendi broke he deadlock in Valencia’s favour bringing the 22 wins in a row to an end.
