Copa America 2015: Neymar banned for four games

Neymar red

Brazil might as well take the ball and go home. Their best player and the only one capable of lifting a poor side has been banned four games for his extra curricular activities against Pablo Armero and then Jeison Murillo after Brazil lost to Colombia. Which means no more Copa America for Neymar even if Brazil manages to get to the second round.

Neymar was going to receive a one match suspension for picking up two bookings in the Peru and Colombia match. He was then shown a red for his infraction against Armero and Murillo, a three match ban. The referee Enrique Osses in his report also wrote that Neymar was verbally abusive in the tunnel following the red. “You want to become famous at my expense , S.O.B”

You might argue 4 matches is over the top but Neymar was over the top too. He shows a great deal of immaturity as a player, let alone a captain of a storied team like Brazil.

  1. I agree. He’s a bit too immature to be the captain of the team. And with him banned, Brazil has an uphill climb at the Copa.
