Champions League playoff first leg: Memphis scores a brace in Man Utd’s win over Brugge

For Club Brugge there was hell depay. Or as we have been asked to, call him Memphis. After an indifferent start to his league career at least on the evidence seen in the first two matches, Memphis Depay showed what the fuss was all about. Two glorious goals and an assist for Marouane Fellaini’s stoppage time insurance capped off a very productive evening. The Red Devils had an early set back as a Victor Vasquez free kick led to a freak own goal by Michael Carrick with a small assist from Adnan Januzaj.

Brugge went a man down in the 79th minute with defender Brandon Mechele picking up a second yellow for a foul on Javier Hernandez. They were also a bit unlucky Fellaini was able to score a fraction before the ref blew his whistle. That was a very important two goal cushion.
