Claudio Ranieri led Cagliari from the depths of Serie C to Serie A in his three seasons as manager from 1988 to 1991. Naturally, that warmth and love has followed Ranieri along his travels as manager and his Leicester triumph has sparked the imagination of the fans of his former club. Oristano, a small Sardinian town recently formed the first Leicester City fan club in Italy.

There is a connection, a Sardinian restaurant close to Leicester is frequented by Ranieri and the owner’s brother is a Cagliari ultra who traveled recently with a group to England to see the Foxes play in March when the title was still a dream. They celebrated the Foxes unexpected triumph with a victory parade of sorts, a “carousel of cars” and beer laden toasts. As the article (in Italian) tells it, their fondest hope: the Foxes come out to Sardinia this summer.
