How will Brexit affect the EPL ?

Daniel Schofield writing in the Telegraph says…
Potentially significantly, potentially not at all. Mostly it depends on whether the United Kingdom continues to abide by the EU’s freedom of movement principle. If it doesn’t then future European signings will require work permits in order to play in English football. At present, the Home Office’s requirements are linked to a player’s international appearances. Using such criteria, West Ham and Leicester would have been unable to sign Dimitri Payet and N’Golo Kante last summer. Just as significantly, clubs may be unable to import European players under the age of 18 in line with Fifa regulations so Arsenal would not have been able to sign Cesc Fabregas as a 16-year-old from Barcelona.

One comment on “How will Brexit affect the EPL ?
  1. It has already affected the EPL. Many players are not eligible to play in the EPL, salaries are not valued as much so more players will most likely consider playing elsewhere. This could affect some of the expected summer signings that might not happen anymore.
