Clint Dempsey’s solitary first half goal against Paraguay was enough.
Team USA defended doggedly and went on to win the game by that one goal margin inspite of being a man down from the 42nd minute onwards.
And a bit later on they found out that they had moved to the top of the group.
That transpired because table toppers Colombia played already eliminated Costa Rica with a second string team.
They lost 3 -2 and went below USA on goal difference.
