In Argentina to conduct an interview with the Maradona, Gary Lineker called the Argentine World Cup winner the game's greatest player ever.
"Diego has been the best player without a doubt, better than Pele," said Lineker.
He also said that "The second goal that Maradona scored against England in Mexico was the best goal ever."
"We've heard lots of times that Messi is the new Maradona, but it is a very big claim for such a young player," said Lineker. Comparisons to Maradona are premature, he says.
I agree. Leo Messi is good, but has yet to prove himself in the World Cup. This could be fun!
Pele is king of football....Maradona is king of king....He was as absolute genius & i feel pele is nowhere near him....Pele never dreamed of a player who could demean his stature....Maradona not only demeaned pele but just overshadowed his stature....If Maradona wud hv stayed in Brazil he wud hv scored 2500 goals....Lets us end this debate for once & for all....PELE jaa DARU peele
I have always respected Gary Lineker and after what he'd said about Maradona I even respect him more, well done Gary. I say that, not only because I was one of the millions who were entertained by Maradona's great football, especially his days at Napoli, but most importantly when I hear those who disregard all his input to football as a sport because of a goal that was scored using his hand!! Beleive me, if you are a footballer playing for your country in the world cup and found a chance in front of the goal where if you raise your hand you will get that valuable goal, and yet there will be a big chance that the referee wouldn't see it, you would've done it! So let's get on with it and judge players with what they give and achieve in the game not by one incident that we, our selves, would've committed if we were on their shoes!
