Michael Ballack opened his account for Chelsea by scoring a penalty kick. It must have been good old times for Ballack, if there is one club he has punished over the years, it must be Werder Bremen.
Anyways, the German tabloids were full of how the game was gifted to the Blues. The Bild called Werder stupid for gifting the game away. They could not believe how Pasanen lost the ball to Essien. The bloody Finn!
It is measure of the newfound nationalistic pride in Germans that while Chelsea beat Werder Bremen, a defeat that would have caused much angst and soul searching before, the mood changed when Bayern crushed Spartak Moscow, 4-0. The Bild and Der Spiegel were pretty delirious.
