Ronaldinho’s old club, Gremio is fighting to continue on after being beaten by Defensor Sporting of Uruguay, 0-2 in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores. Boca Juniors were saved by a injury time Martin Palermo goal as star studded Boca drew with Paraguay’s Libertad, 1-1. Now, they have to face Libertad in their hometown of Asuncion.
However it is Deportivo Cucuta from Colombia that is making news. Cucuta is not as well known as other Primera clubs like Millonarios, America de Cali, or Nacional but in 2006, Cucuta won its first Colombian Premier title beating Tolima. Their stars Blas Perez and Macnelly Torres are leading the way in the Copa Libertadores. Cucuta is poised to enter the semi-finals of the Copa beating Nacional of Uruguay, 2-0 in the first leg. The goals came from Blas Perez and Macnelly Torres. They also beat Mexican powerhouse Toluca on the way to the quarterfinals.
