Giuseppe Rossi and Alan Smith to bid adieu

The striker situation in Man Utd was getting a trifle complicated with Carlos Tevez being courted by Sir Alex. Now there is news that Alan Smith and Giuseppe Rossi might be departing Old Trafford. It is the clearest indication that Sir Alex is confident that the Tevez saga will be resolved in his favour by the end of August as soon as all the legalities are sorted out and West Ham settles on their fee. With Tevez in the squad, Smith and Rossi would drop low in the pecking order.
Smith may land up in Boro as the rumours are that they have tabled a fairly substantial offer and Rossi will be snapped up by Parma where he impressed the club with nine goals in 16 outings to keep them from relegation in the Serie.
Meanwhile Gaby Heinze is off the market as far as Sir Alex is concerned but the Argentinian left back seems to constantly test the waters with Liverpool.
Meanwhile, Michael Carrick might be sharing minutes with Owen Hargreaves in Sir Alex’s preferred four man midfield configuration. Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Cristiano Ronaldo are locked in as starters. The only way Carrick would get full minutes is if Man Utd were to switch to a lone striker in a 4-5-1 configuration which probably will not happen now that it appears Tevez is on his way and Saha has indicated that he is ready to see first squad duty.
