Jose Mourinho looks down the barrel at Liverpool (read Rafa)

Jose Mourinho, the master of mind games has targeted Liverpool and their shiny new acquisitions. He also lets in a bit of a historical slip.
“In the last three years it’s been Chelsea and Manchester United in the league, and it’s been a long time since Liverpool won the Premiership.
Jose, since the Premiership began the Reds have not won the title. Only four teams have. But of course, you knew that. You were just rubbing it in. Like you did with Arsene when you mentioned winning the CL with Porto.
It gets better.
” But it’s been four years with Benítez and they want the Premiership. They don’t hide it – Benítez, the players, they all speak about winning the title. ”
Just in case Tom Hicks and George Gillette were unaware of how long Rafa was at the helm, here comes a reminder to put him in the doghouse.
“In other years they could say: ‘Oh, these guys, they’ve spent a lot of money so they have to win.’ This season they have to talk differently. They have high responsibilities and high expectations.”
Deconstructed: If these guys fail to win the title this year, it is all Rafa’s fault.

  1. Master of mind games? The bitchslapping he took at Anfield semis twice in the last three years left him looking like a sour faced blubbing fish. He’s got about as much mind game power as the hypnotist from Little Britain. Rafa laughs at him, he’s hilarious. As Carra said, the biggest plonker to come out of London since Rodney from Only Fools and Horses.
And remember to wave your stancard issue blue plastic flags when the announcer tells you to.

  2. What on earth are you talking about? Since immediately after the CL Final Rafa’s been on about getting the money he felt he was promised. He eventually got it and was told by Parry in public it had to be the title this coming season – just as it always used to be the bread and butter for Liverpool in the 70s and 80s. Cups aren’t good enough after all this time.
Rafa agrees. Gerrard agrees. Carra agrees. Riise agrees. The League is the target and players have come in who should be the final piece in the jigsaw to accomplish that.
What has Mourinho said? Nothing at all by comparison. The pressure is invited and welcomed by the players and the manager. Because this time there can be no excuses. Rafa knows the score this season. It doesn’t need deconstructing. It’s written larger than the “This is Anfield” sign in the players’ tunnel.

  3. It never ceases to amaze me how managers choose their words publicly. It’s like Ladies’ Room gossip at times and the forward thinking of most of the statements is non-existent. I think the international press should do a better job of holding them to their words – maybe they’d choose them better and act with more class.
