The turning point: Perez visits Benzema's home

The personal touch never fails. It says how much Florentino Perez wanted Karim Benzema.

The Lyon striker reveals he could have gone to Man Utd but the thought of playing with Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo proved irresistible. Then Perez shows up at his doorstep to convince him that it was the right move.

"Real are a kid's dream. Florentino Perez came to my house at Bron. That was important," he continued. "He can speak French and I understood he absolutely wanted me. I could only leave for Real. It was my dream, that's all.

If only Sir Alex could speak French, it would have been a major selling point. Now, Benzema can be clearly understood when he wants a wage increase rather having a grumpy redfaced Scotsman saying, "Non comprendez. But I can say this, you have a hellhole of a chance whatever it is you want."
