The bad news just keeps getting worse for Liverpool with Torres to join Steven Gerrard as a possible candidate for surgery. He has a hernia which could be cured with a long layoff of a month but if symptoms persist then surgery will be the other alternative.
Rafa has no choice but to play Torres in today's match against Lyon at the Stade de Gerland. A loss could effectively end their CL hopes as Fiorentina face an easier task in Debrecen. Alberto Aquilani might also be pressed into service ahead of schedule.
Its a crocked squad with Martin Skrtel (muscle), Albert Riera (hamstring), Martin Kelly (ankle) already out. Making the last minute list are Glen Johnson (calf), Daniel Agger (back), Fábio Aurélio (calf) and David Ngog (ankle).
It is almost cruel to pile on Rafa at this point. And it is silly to accuse him of making these bargain basement deals when the same defensive unit playing healthy gave up just 27 goals last season. As an Arsenal fan, I am ecstatic that Thomas Vermaelen and William Gallas are combining so well but we are a few injuries from Mikael Silvestre.
