The tanning industry eagerly awaits Phil Brown as a spokesperson

The fallout from the Jimmy Bullard - Nick Barmby handbags routine and the Arsenal loss convinces Adam Pearson, Hull's CEO that Phil Brown is not the man for the job.

Pearson's immediate concern is to save Hull from relegation.

"Retention of Premier League status is paramount and the board believes a change in managerial direction is the correct option at this time."

He will turn to assistant coach Brian Horton in the interim to guide the team for the Portsmouth away game. However, he is also lining up long term replacements who can take over by the end of the week. Alan Curbishley, Paul Jewell and Gareth Southgate are mentioned as possible candidates.

Say what you will. Phil Brown was a feisty and colourful character. As an Arsenal supporter he gave me enough reason to dislike him but the game needs the Phil Browns and the Neil Warnocks.
