RSC Anderlecht’s Romelu Lukaku at the age of 16 years and 10 months becomes the Belgian league’s top scorer with 15 goals in 24 games. He started in 15 of them because his father wants him to complete school and Anderlecht’s coach Aerial Jacobs mindful of that desire, uses him sparingly.
He is already inviting comparisons to Didier Drogba, in his blazing speed, spatial awareness, and towering physicality. At 6′ 4″ and 196 lbs he is quite a handful. The clip above showcases these attributes quite emphatically. He will go far under the right manager.
For the record Chelsea have already come knocking and offered the Belgian club £10m for Lukaku’s services. No April Fool’s joke. Paul Doyle’s article has a bit of an interview which reveals a player who has not gotten ahead of himself.
