Real Madrid make short work of Ajax, 4-0

Karim Benzema gets the ball rolling as he niftily finishes off Mesut Oezil's nice little layback. Alvaro Arbeloa scorches the ball magnificently past Maarten Stekelenburg for Real's second goal. Cristiano Ronaldo then takes advantage of an Ajax error to drag the ball wide and then slam the ball across towards the far post for the third.

Urby Emanuelson then chopped down Mesut Oezil after the German midfielder showed some deft footwork to get the better of the defender. Ronaldo did not miss the spot kick.

Real Madrid and Milan are through from Group G while it was curtains for Ajax, the highest scoring team in the Eredivisie last season. This being Mourinho's Madrid, the match ended in some controversy as it appeared Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos practically invited their red cards. The two players will miss the meaningless match against Auxerre but their suspensions mean that they start the knockout stage on a clean slate.
