While the Indian cricket team did the country proud by winning the World Cup, Indian football took a step back as Bob Houghton resigned after a racism controversy.
Under Houghton, the Bhangra Boys made steady if not spectacular progress winning the 2008 AFC Challenge Cup and two Nehru Cups. They also qualified for the 2010 AFC Asian Cup but made a disappointing exit losing all three group matches.
