On the centenary of Bill Shankly’s birthday, Liverpool come up big by scoring first via birthday-bwoy Daniel Sturridge who celebrated his own 24th birthday with an opportunistic goal which left United flat-footed.  The real story was in the second half, when try as they might, van Persie and gang could not find the net.
