USA beat favourites Germany 2- 1 to enter the finals of the Women’s World Cup.
Germany until this game had scored the most number of goals and struck the most number of shots of any team.
America on the other hand did not look so impressive early.However after their win against China they seemed to have got the bit between their teeth and are now definitely on a roll.
A slighlty depressing fact about the semi final was the number of goals scored via penalty kicks – always a dubious way of deciding which team is better.
One penalty call was for a foul outside the box- the TV replays showed that later.
But the ref didn’t have time to look at TV when making that call.
Now that Blatter is finally hopefully slinking off into the sunset we can hope that someone will eventually see the point in allowing TV replays before important decisions are made.
USA will now face the winner of the England v Japan semi-final and lets hope that there are fewer penalties in that game.
