Holland were beaten 3 -2 by the Czech Republic and have been eliminated from Euro 2016.
The dutch went three goals down after Pavel Kaderabek and Josef Sural scored and Van Persie – coming on as a sub scored a self goal.
He did score a late goal at the other end of the field as well after Huntelaar’s goal had made the score 3-1.
But the third goal remained beyond their reach.
Holland ended up in fourth spot in Group A, five points behind Turkey, who incidentally beat Iceland in their last game.- which meant that they would not have qualified even if they had won the game against Czech Republic.
It is the first time Holland have failed to qualify for a major tournament since they missed the 2002 World Cup.
