Chelsea fans are not utterly distraught by the 2 -1 result against PSG. It could have been worse the way things have been of late.And John Obi Mikel has scored a precious away goal.
However statisticians,that gloomy bunch of killjoys,always gather like vultures when there’s bad news in their record books.
It seems that the grim record of previous CL matches have yeilded up the following figures.
In 584 matches which started with a 2-1 scoreline from the first leg, 286 teams came back to qualify (49%) while 298 teams never recovered (51%).
So PSG have the edge.
And in 990 European matches which started with a 1-0 from first leg, 389 teams came back to qualify (39%) while 601 were dumped out the competition (61%).
So Chelsea have the weight of history to contend with to add to their woes.
And having announced the grey tidings,the statisticians have retreated to their lair and will emerge when the next game gets underway.
