You will be forgiven for saying Eloy who ? He’s Curacao’s goalie. People barely know where Curacao is – so the goal keeper of such a small footballing nation isn’t usually someone who hits headlines regularly.
Eloy Room made headlines however .He wrote his name into the World Cup record book by making 15 saves in Curacao’s game against Ecuador. It is the most number of saves by a goalkeeper in 90 minutes of a World Cup match since recordkeeping began in 1966. Only USA goalkeeper Tim Howard has more, with 16, but that came in an extra-time game against Belgium in 2014.
“For me as a goalkeeper, this is almost a perfect game,” Room said. “I’m really proud of the team, also. We did it as a team. …

Attacking football is enjoyable, bringing joy to the spectators..however,this game highlighted the underappreciated role of defense and goalkeeping.
Iker Casillas once said, “kids dream of scoring the perfect goal, Ive always dreamt of stopping it.”
Eloy Room certainly took that statement to heart and what could have been a humiliating 15-0 victory for Ecuador ended as a mere 0-0 draw thanks to his most incredible performance.
Remember Vozinha .? ( For those saying Vozinha who? – he’s the goalie from Cabo Verde who made 7 saves against Spain – despite being over 40 years old at the time no less)
Well rumors suggest that Vozinha’s superpowers were secretly transferred to Eloy for this match.
Incredible stuff. Well done Room ( No room for improvement there- apologies for the ghastly pun) LP
