The irony of it all is not lost on us Germans. Today’s game brings new meaning to the phrase “national pride.” You see, Lukas Podolski and Miroslav Klose are both Polish born.
Podolski was born in 1985 in Silesia in Poland and has both German and Polish citizenship.
Klose came to Germany with his parents at the age of eight. Klose’s father was a soccer player and was on the Polish national soccer team, while his mom was a Polish national handball player.
Almost everyone in Germany knows this, but when I was talking to Christian about this, he suggested it is a big story. Here’s where you can get some in-depth info from DW.

I am Pole living in Canada and I am very proud of all polish soccer players even if some of them played for Germany. The fact is that Germans has very good front line thanks to Poles (Klose and Podolski. BTW: is Tim Borowski also Pole? His last name is 100% polish

Miroslav Klose is as much German as Polish ethnically. His father is a member of Poland’s ethnic German minority. But ethnicity aside both came to Germany as young children and grew up there and have German citizenship so they are Germans, even if they are Polish born. And to Marek in Canada Tim Borowski is 100% German but he comes from Eastern Germany where a huge percent of population has Czech and Polish surnames.
I was born and raised in POLAND. I live in chicago for more than half of my life. (I was 13 when I came to US) I have both US & Polish citizen ship & I am 125% POLISH–even though my last name is Austrian
There’s plenty of ethnic groups in most countries around the world. For Klose and Podolski there’s a lot more in money and career to play on Germany’s team. Klose’s parents did play on Polish teams when that was the best opportunity they had and did not mind being Polish then.

Podolski and Klose are both polish born. Just because you have citizenship to a country does not make you a native. If i moved to Australia, I would still be polish even if I had Australian citizenship. Having citizenship in a country is not related to what your background is. That is probably the dumbest thing ive ever heard of Marecki. Also, how can you mind being a certain nationality, you are pretty damn ignorant.
Also the reason that so many polish people wound up moving to germany was because they were forced out of poland smart guy. So it was not about caring whether they were polish or not. Obviously your a concieted german.
My understanding was that those players are ethnic German, but have dual citizenship. Just like I am ethnic German but have US citizenship. The US citizenship does not detract from me being an ethnic German. Also, my understanding is that there are a lot of German minorities living in Slavic lands. (ie. Poland, Russia, Ukraine, etc.) and even parts of Frace (ie. Lorraine region). Again, they are still ethhic Germans or Germanic people regarless of their citizenship.
