Nicky Butt scores the winner against Tottenham. How significant is this? A Butt goal is as rare the return of Haley’s comet. This was just his second goal for the Toons in 39 appearances. His first one came in October 2004. Butt scored last in August 2005 for Birmingham (on loan from Newcastle). Tottenham lost 2-3.

This was some game, right before halftime, the Spurs Chimbonda(spelling) slapped Butt, er, Nicky Butt that is; twice on the face and Butt pushed him and into the tunnel; there was some shoving going on. Butt got a yellow card; so did Chimbonda in what might have been a subsequent action (see story http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_prem/6236771.stm ) but it certainly didn’t look like Butt instigated anything.
So, opponents should beware: Butt grabbed the winner; he may have been made mad.
