Armed only with a whistle a referee chased a lion off a soccer field.No this did not happen in Africa..!
The Reading mascot Kingsley — a giant lion – was shown a red card by the referee for confusing him in the game between Reading and Newcastle United.
“I can see where the referee was getting confused, you know he does look like so many of my players,” said Reading manager Steve Coppell.
The game also marked Michael Owen’s return for Newcastle United- but Reading took the game 1- 0 thanks to a goal scored by Dave Kitson’s in the 51st minute…..(without the help of the lion – because it had already been sent off the field by then…!)
