First time ever in the history of German goalkeepers

Oliver Kahn says that for the first time in the history of german football a goal keeper is playing for the national team while not being allowed to play for his club. This in reference to the current status of his old rival Lehmann.
“Perhaps rather than talk about former colleagues, he should be grateful he has the chance to play in the national team while he doesn’t play for his club,” Kahn told football magazine Kicker. That has never happened before in the history of German football.”
His comments were in reply to Lehmann telling another German mag – Der Speigel sometime back that Kahn “takes himself far too seriously and thinks he is very important”.
And while the debate about the relative merits of the two goalkeepers rages here’s a look at why Lehmann is warming the bench at Arsenal. He is not exactly covering himself with glory.
