World Cup 2010: Nigeria’s hopes hang by a thread

This article in the Vanguard sums up the anguish and anger fans of the Super Eagles are feeling after their 2-2 draw against Tunisia in Abuja. Their faltering hopes for a World Cup berth now lie on the hopes of winning against Kenya and Mozambique and a Tunisian loss to either of these countries. The Nigerians are two points behind Tunisia in Group B.
1994 was a banner year for the Super Eagles and the names Rashidi Yekini, Samson Siasia, Finidi George, Emmanuel Amuneke, Jay Jay Okocha, Stephen Keshi, Daniel Amokachi, and Sunday Oliseh were household names as they won the Africa Cup of Nations and entered the Round of 16 in the World Cup that year. Italy had to come from behind an Amuneke goal taking the match to extra time before a Roberto Baggio goal finally halted the further progress of the Super Eagles.
It all seems so far away now.
