The coaches of the CONMEBOL zone weighed in on each countries performance.
Marcelo Bielsa aka El Loco was chosen as coach of the World Cup qualifiers for leading Chile to the World Cup for the first time in 12 years, as La Roja finished second behind Brazil.
Bielsa is known for his disciplinarian nature, his obsession to details, unusual tactics, and nurturing of young players. He has singularly changed Chilean football. His faith in Chilean U20 standouts like Alexis Sánchez and Gary Medel paid off and his emphasis on attacking and attractive football make Chile a team to watch.
However, and there is always a however, as Argentina’s coach in the 2002 World Cup, he is held responsible for their early demise.
